The translation of Plato that Kreeft uses is interesting. The Socratic dictum, which I have everywhere else seen rendered “The unexamined life is not worth living,” is here rendered “Life without inquiry is not worth living.” I’m inclined to suspect this is the more accurate translation. It changes the meaning profoundly, I think, switching the focus from the subjective to the objective.
